HACDC's Affordable Housing Program is built on a foundation of educating and counseling clients on the overall homeownership process in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner.
The first step in the process is participation in HACDC’s Homebuyer Education Program (HBE) which is presented and conducted in Haitian Creole. To date, over 2500 individuals graduated from HBE since our first class in 1992. Of these graduates, 465 have become homeowners. With the assistance of HACDC staff, clients are able to secure market-rate mortgages, as well as layers of subsidy to make their new home affordable.
Further evidence of the community stabilization effect of the housing program is our clients’ 0% default rate if they keep their original financing. HACDC also provides affordable rental units.
